Answers

Everything shippers ask us in the first phone call

If your question is not here, call 512-302-3113 or email customer@transcava.com and we will answer it properly.

Answers reflect our standard practice as of 2026. Specific shipments are always governed by the written rate confirmation and our Terms of Service.
How fast can you get a truck to my dock?
Inside Central Texas, standard dry van pickups requested before 2:00pm CT are usually covered the same day. Expedited vehicles can be moving within about two hours of a signed rate confirmation. Long-haul origins outside Texas typically need 24 hours of notice for the best pricing.
Do I need a contract to ship with you?
No. About a third of our volume is one-off spot freight and there is no minimum shipment count. Contracts exist for shippers who want a fixed rate and held capacity on recurring lanes, but they are entirely optional.
How do you choose which carrier hauls my freight?
We match commodity, equipment type, lane familiarity and service record. Before dispatch we re-verify active FMCSA operating authority, current cargo and liability insurance with the certificate holder listed, and CSA safety scores. Carriers with unsatisfactory safety ratings or lapsed coverage are not used.
What insurance protects my cargo?
The motor carrier's cargo policy is the primary coverage, typically $100,000 on dry van and higher on specialised equipment. Behind that we carry $250,000 contingent cargo and $1,000,000 general liability, plus a $100,000 FMCSA surety bond. For high-value shipments we can arrange all-risk shipper's interest coverage on request.
What happens if my freight is damaged or short?
Note the exception on the delivery receipt before the driver leaves and photograph it. Send us the photos and we will open a claim with the carrier within 24 hours. We handle the filing, chase the adjuster and send you a written update every week until it settles. Most cargo claims resolve in 30 to 90 days.
Can I track my shipment?
Yes. You receive pickup, mid-transit and delivery notifications by text or email, plus check-call updates on request. For long hauls we send a status at least every twelve hours. Contract accounts can also be added to GPS tracking links where the carrier supports it.
What are your payment terms?
New accounts begin on prepay or net 15. After three settled invoices we will review net 30 on request. We accept ACH, company check and major credit cards with a 2.9% processing fee. Invoices go out the same day the proof of delivery arrives, with the BOL and rate confirmation attached.
Do you handle hazardous materials?
Selectively. We move hazard classes 3, 8 and 9 with placarded, endorsed carriers. We do not broker explosives, radioactive materials or bulk chemicals. Full documentation including SDS and proper shipping name is required before quoting.
Can you move an oversize or overweight load?
Yes. Our project desk runs the route survey, checks bridge postings and clearances, applies for state permits and books escort vehicles where required. Lead time is typically three to seven business days depending on how many states the permit chain crosses.
What information do you need to give me a quote?
Origin and destination ZIP codes, total weight, dimensions or pallet count, commodity description, equipment preference if any, and your pickup and delivery windows. Anything else — appointment requirements, liftgate, hazmat — helps us avoid a revised quote later.
Do you ship internationally?
We handle the North American road leg. Southbound Mexico freight is staged at Laredo or El Paso and handed to a bonded cross-border partner; Canada is handled through a partner broker in Ontario. Ocean and air forwarding are outside our scope, though we can move the drayage to and from the port.
Are you a broker or an asset-based carrier?
We are a licensed property broker. We do not own trucks, which means we are free to put your freight on whichever vetted carrier is genuinely the best fit rather than the one sitting in our own yard.
Can you store freight between pickup and delivery?
Yes, through partner warehouses in Austin, San Antonio and Dallas. Options run from a single overnight cross-dock hold to racked storage by the pallet-month, with pick & pack available.
What are your hours, and what happens after they end?
The dispatch desk runs Monday to Friday 7:00am to 7:00pm CT and Saturday 8:00am to 2:00pm CT. Night dispatch covers freight already in transit until 3:00am. Contract accounts hold a mobile number that reaches a dispatcher at any hour.

Glossary

Freight terms worth knowing

BOL

Bill of lading — the contract of carriage and receipt for goods, signed at pickup.

POD

Proof of delivery — the signed BOL returned after the receiver accepts the freight.

Detention

Charge applied when a driver waits beyond the free loading or unloading window.

Accessorial

Any charge beyond linehaul and fuel — liftgate, tarping, extra stops, lumper fees.

Deadhead

Miles a truck drives empty to reach a pickup. Long deadhead raises the rate.

OS&D

Over, short and damaged — the exception report filed when delivery does not match the BOL.

Freight class

NMFC classification from 50 to 500 based on density, handling, stowability and liability.

Drayage

Short-haul movement of a container between port or rail ramp and a nearby facility.

MABD

Must arrive by date — the retail delivery deadline that triggers chargebacks if missed.

Still have a question?

The dispatch desk would rather answer it now than sort out a misunderstanding after the truck is loaded.
